California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom Endorses Buffy Wicks For State Assembly
OAKLAND — Momentum continues to grow for longtime advocate and activist Buffy Wicks as, today, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom endorsed her campaign to be the next State Assemblymember for District 15.
“Working with Buffy over the past few years, I’ve seen up close that she is someone with the heart, passion and tenacity necessary not just to fight but to win the tough ones,” Lieutenant Governor Newsom said. “She is exactly the type of leader we need in Sacramento – one who not only tackles what’s hard, but who knows how to work to get to solutions. I believe Buffy’s bold leadership would serve the people of Assembly District 15 and the East Bay well, and I’m excited to offer her my full support in her campaign for Assembly.”
Buffy noted: “Gavin has always been the kind of leader who is willing to put his neck on the line for what he believes is right, no matter the political consequences. That’s the kind of representative our East Bay progressive community deserves in Sacramento, and that is the kind of leadership I promise to provide when elected. It’s an honor to have Gavin’s endorsement, friendship, and confidence.”
The Newsom endorsement comes on the heels of last week’s endorsement from Bay Area community leader and BART Board Director Lateefah Simon, and an early endorsement in the campaign from United States Senator Kamala D. Harris (D-CA). Buffy also announced last month that she raised over $200,000 in her first month as a candidate, raising more money and maintaining more cash on hand than all other announced candidates combined.
Buffy Wicks is a non-profit leader, community organizer, an advocate for children, and a grassroots activist with experience at the local, state and federal level. She launched and currently directs the California Kids Campaign at Common Sense Kids Action.
