Fighting towards gun safety legislation

Jul 24, 2018 | Blog

I spent my Sunday on the campaign trail meeting with some of the activists who are leading the fight to pass sensible gun safety legislation. With my daughter JoJo in tow, I spoke to our local East Bay Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. As moms, we all want our kids to grow up in neighborhoods that are safe and free from gun violence — but we know all too well that we have to roll up our sleeves and work to get there. That means becoming effective activists ourselves, who ask our elected officials the tough questions, and hold them accountable when they fail to answer the call for change.

And there are no better role models for how to fight for the changes we want to see than the survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. David Hogg is one of those students, and he is so inspiring to watch. These students are showing all of us what holding our representatives accountable looks like, and when change comes this November, it will because they were there leading the fight. And seeing the energy of the crowd who came to the Oakland stop of the March For Our Lives Road to Change Tour, gives me so much hope for November & beyond!
