BERKELEYSIDE: Opinion: Breastfeeding on the campaign trail

Jul 2, 2018 | Blog, In the News

Having my baby daughter, JoJo, saved me emotionally from the deep despair of the 2016 election results. And she inspired me to run for office. Being a new mom on the campaign trail has presented some unique challenges, but it has also reinforced to me how important it is that we have more mothers seated at the table when we are making policy choices. It brings into focus the need for affordable childcare, universal pre-k, paid family leave, healthcare that provides our mothers and their children with comprehensive services, and the need for family-friendly workplaces. Like many of us in this moment, I am putting one foot in front of the other trying my hardest to create a better future for my daughter. I shared more on my experiences while running as a new mother in an essay published today in Berkeleyside:
