Buffy Wicks Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Against Women in NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FAMILY AND LIFE ADVOCATES, DBA NIFLA, ET AL. v. BECERRA, ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CALIFORNIA, ET AL.

OAKLAND, CA.  – Buffy Wicks, Candidate CA Assembly District 15, Grassroots organizer and former Obama White House Aide release the following statement today in response to the Supreme Court of the United States ruling against women’s rights in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v Becerra:

“This week, the Supreme Court ruled away an essential component of a woman’s right to choose — in a 5-3 decision, the Court ruled that ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ don’t need to inform women about state medical services: namely, abortion.

A woman’s ability to choose can only exist when women are informed about all of their medical options and I am grateful to our California leaders, US Senator Kamala Harris and Assemblymember David Chiu, for championing California’s legislation to keep women safe. Crisis pregnancy centers prey on women, many of whom are in a vulnerable state, to manipulate them into continuing their pregnancies even if continuation isn’t the best option for that woman. Women need bodily autonomy. Women need to have the ability to decide when and under what conditions they should start families. Women need all available medical information to make informed decisions about their lives and futures, as should be the right of every American.

Every woman on the Supreme Court opposed the ruling. Maybe it’s time for more women to be in charge.”
