Mar 15, 2018 | Blog, Press Release

BERKELEY, CA, MARCH 15th– The Buffy Wicks for Assembly campaign is proud to announce California Secretary of State Alex Padilla endorses Buffy Wicks to represent California’s District 15.

“As a lifelong community organizer, Buffy has been a champion of voting rights and civic engagement. She has demonstrated time and time again her commitment to progressive values and ability to make change” said Padilla.  “I wholeheartedly endorse Buffy Wicks for State Assembly because she is a strong progressive leader who will get results on the public policies we all care about – affordable housing, better education, public transportation and more”

“I am honored to be endorsed by California Secretary of State Alex Padilla” said Buffy Wicks.  “Secretary Padilla has been one of the most forward-thinking leaders in civic engagement in the country. I am constantly inspired by his commitment to making the polling booths accessible to everyone.  I have spent two decades mobilizing people to vote and have worked on voter enfranchisement public policy, including automatic voter registration, so his endorsement means a lot me.”

Alex Padilla has served as California’s Secretary of State since January 2015 where he is working to modernize the office, increase voter registration and participation and strengthening voting rights. Previously, Padilla served in the California State Senate (2006-2014) where he chaired the Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Communications.

In addition to Secretary Padilla, Wicks is endorsed by U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, gun-violence prevention advocates Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly, Congressman Ro Khanna, State Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember David Chiu, Assemblymember Bill Quirk, Assemblymember Jose Medina, BART Board Director Lateefah Simon, Howard Dean, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt, Hercules City Council Member Mayor Myrna de Vera, and many other community leaders across the district.
