I’m with Buffy!

If you know me, you know – what with raising my daughters while serving in office, having a busy day job while advocating for criminal justice reform and racial justice – that I’ve got more to do than there are hours in the day. I’m sure you do, too. So I’m going to cut to the chase.

I’m endorsing Buffy Wicks for California State Assembly!

Why? Because we need to send someone to Sacramento whose heart is as big as her capacity to create change. Because we need a leader whose commitment to a progressive vision for the East Bay and the rest of California is matched by her ability to deliver for our community.

I’m endorsing Buffy for Assembly because, when it comes to the fight for a progressive California – for women and families, economic fairness, transit solutions, addressing the housing crisis, true universal health care, and criminal justice reform – she’s the partner we need to win in the legislature.

Like many of us, Buffy didn’t come from much. She was raised with a lot of love but in modest circumstances, and she got her start by attending community college. She organized against the Iraq War and worked for a labor union fighting for better health care and wages, before serving in the White House to help pass the Affordable Care Act, which provided health insurance for five million Californians. Today, as director of the California Kids Campaign and a mother herself, she’s our state’s fiercest advocate for children – leading the fight for affordable childcare, paid leave, and more.
